Greg, I was with Olaf that day. You can't see the entire curve from that point. If you walked down the hill to the left you'd be in the trees and unable to see anything. This is the same vantage point as the photos in this thread: [ngdiscussion.net] You can see quite a bit of the railroad on either side of Cumbres Pass from here, but without a helicopter or drone there are trees blocking some of the views.

We hiked in on the Continental Divide Trail from Cumbres (where the old highway crosses the new road). I don't remember how long it took, but probably not much more than 30 minutes. This was after a low snow year, but there were still some big drifts in the woods that slowed us down. As I recall this point can be seen from the road in a few locations. We followed the trail until we got close, then hiked up through the woods to where the point was. There are quite a few interesting (distant) vantage points on either side of Cumbres that can be accessed from the CDT trail.
