I hiked with Olaf that day. We were both shooting video and these are stills from video frames. I think his camera has a 10x zoom, so probably around a 300mm equivalent when converting to a 35mm focal length.
If you look in the bottom right corner of the last few photos you can just see the railroad rounding windy point. This is the same vantage point as the Tanglefoot curve shots in this thread: [
ngdiscussion.net] From this point we could see the railroad for quite a distance on either side of Cumbres.
