For quality cleanliness and sparkling clean bullseye glass us old timers always, always, always, ALWAYS used Ivory Soap bars from which to scrap off some slivers for cleaning. For convenience, the bars were usually available free on the sink of most away-from-home locations. Even in an emergency, other brands of bar soap was not worth a hoot.
PS: I was there, on those Pickering Shays.
