Hi Ralph,
Two things we have done: Use fire suppression wood treatment and there is an alarm system with 24/7 live monitoring.
Two plans for the future: We have fire hydrants that will be installed around the campus with new supply pipe. The fire pond is right across from the shop so setting this up will be fairly straight forward. There have been engineering studies for a dry sprinkler system in the shop that would have a standpipe connection on the outside.
Two of our Board members are fire officers and there are firefighters who volunteer at the railroad. These folks have offered solid ideas for fire protection.
The upgrades take time and $$ but the hydrant project is at the top of the list.
