In earlier days ,sections were relatively short ,roughly as far as a track(section) crew could venture away from the section house on a handcar . In the 1930s the D&RGW started purchasing motor cars and this greatly extended the range of section men working on the track . As a result ,the number of track maintenance stations (section houses)were reduced as much as half . Such locations that were closed in the 1930s and '40s were : Big Horn ,Toltec , Los Pinos and Cresco .
