Inspired by Olaf's adventures, I thought I might help pass the time while social distancing by reviewing some of my old ng. pix. My train chasing trips were much much less adventuresome that Olaf's., so I will not bore you with the details and just let the images more or less speak for themselves. My first ng. pictures were on the SP ng. when diesel No. 1 had to go to the Bakersfield shop from work and back up No. 9 was put back into service for several weeks. We got there just in time for No.9's last trip, which also happened to be the last "regular" use of steam by the vast imperial SP. The date was August 25, 1959. The first shot is the Owenyo yards, the second and third southbound to Keeler, and finally unloading the No. 1 at Owenyo. Now that i think about it, the unloading picture should have been posted first since it happened the night before the last run. We were very relieved to learn some "set-up" work needed to be done before the diesel could be returned to service, so No. 9 would make one more run the next day.
