What is the Square Nail Gang? *PIC*

I keep getting asked this question by people interested in the Friends but not knowing a whole lot about the volunteer work sessions.
We are a group of about 30 individuals who have worked at least one session at Osier restoring the Section House and Depot. Most of us camp at Sublette Heights (just above Sublette) and drive into Osier every morning (typically at 7:30 AM). Since the Friends started encouraging people to return every year to their same projects, we have built up a long term friendship and comraderie. This is greatly aided by the fact that we eat our suppers together at and BS until late at night around the campfire. If it wasn't for Nancy Norcross' meals, I just don't think it would be the same.
There have been other groups who have taken on names, like the famous F-Troop track layers. We got ours from the thousands of antique square nails (actually called "cut" nails as opposed to modern wire nails) that we pulled out of the old woodwork. See our badge below.
We sort of think of ourselves as separate or a splinter group of the Friends and talk a good line of how we do things better. But the fact is that we have made as many errors as anyone else in the learning process.
Another reason for our feeling of independence, is that we have been using money from the Colo. Hist. Society for the project. Many tools and equipment come from the Friends, but all the material (perhaps going on $100K) comes from the Colorado Gaming funds. This is a matching grant. They give us the money and we provide the labor.
