Re: Need some help with DRG Class 1 cars

Due to the ongoing sit-in, I redid the flat car perspective and did a perspective scale for the length. Perspective was scaled every four inches against the 8" sill height. I tried two versions of the photo, one from the MHF Early Years book and the other from the original C+10 book. The photos do not match very well - it appears that there has been warping of the image over time, either from photographing a non-flat original, lens distortion in the original or whatever, and length measurements vary over the length of the car where they shouldn't with the constant reducing scale. The half inch hogging is a relatively constant arc in the C+10 version but is uneven, particularly toward the A end of the car, in the Early Years version.

This version seems to confirm a previous result that showed the wheelbase closer to 8 feet than nine (now measured at almost exactly 96 inches with the perspective scale) and shows a sill length of 200 inches, not counting the apparently half inch thick end straps. Another confirmation of the wheel placement was the position of the pedestal straps relative to the stake pockets - I had previously made the mistake of referencing that at the side sill between first/second stakes rather than proper perspective at the intermediate sill. For better comparison I redrew the car with the 8 foot base (still 204 inch sills) and set it against the 9 foot base car and the photo (scaled to match the scale drawings at the B end sill corner). When I added the lettering, the 8 foot base car seems to be a nearly perfect match.
