The obit says they ran Kelly's for several years starting in 1975. My guess is they were the last owners/operators. It doesn't say if they owned the building or not. Kelly's might have been open in 1981 when I moved to Chama. I know I never ate there after I showed up. It was closed soon after, and in the winter of 1981-82 the building burned down (not once, but twice - the second time after the power, gas and water were turned off...). The property was for sale for several years at an astronomical price because it included the liquor license, which was supposedly worth big money.

The people who bought the property never had need for the liquor license. The cleared the lot and built a house/art gallery on the back side of the property, against the alley and put a bunch of landscaping on the street side.

ps I knew of a Jan Rees when I lived there, perhaps a relative.
