This weekend I found a new booklet at the Whistle Stop in Pasadena. It is also advertised in the new issue of NG&SL Gazette.
This booklet is entitled Hawaiian Railway Album: Volume 1 - the Oahu Railway and Land Company, Limited, in Honolulu. This is primarily a picture book of photos taken by a railfan navy machinist from 1943 to 1946. It contains wonderful views of the nicely maintained locomotives and their trains shot at and around the station and roundhouse complex in Honolulu. While published by The Railroad Press it appears to be a project of The Hawaiian Railway Society who intends to follow it up with two more volumes.
It is very interesting to look at the many outside-framed 0-6-0s, 2-8-0s, 4-6-0s and the 2-8-2s nicely lined out in either white or aluminum. The lower cab panel is bordered, the tenders have horizontal lines top and bottom, and the domes are also stripped. Even the slope-back tenders of the 3-foot gauge 0-6-0s are lined out! Very nice!
