Obviously I don't know specifically
how you are searching for "useful information", but certainly the search feature on the NGDF is not the greatest.
One option that you may find more useful is to use either the Google or DuckDuckGo search engine with a search query of
just the NGDF. To try that out, copy or type this into a Google or DuckDuckGo search box:
493 site:ngdiscussion.net
Both of those search engines do a good job of returning relevant threads. Change the "493" search phrase to whatever you like for different topics.
And, if you prefer to see photo results, Google offers a bunch of relevant threads if you click the "Images" tab at those Google search results. Keep in mind that Google is searching on the
text when it searches NGDF threads, so threads that have text about one locomotive, but also include photos of a different locomotive (as threads wander) can show something other than what you searched for. Still, its a great tool.
While DuckDuckGo does well for NGDF
text results, it doesn't do as well as Google when it comes to NGDF
photos.
