Re: How is one wood to coal converson done?

Matt, do the records you have imply that the coal was for SVRy use, or could it have been coal being shipped to other online customers? Coal for example may have been shipped to Prarrie for use in heating buildings or homes as well as cooking and the same for other points on the line. I suspect most people burned wood for this purpose, but I know that over here in Enterprise, the local coal supplier was still in business up untill the mid 1980's and they handled large lump coal for heating as well as stoker coal till they quit, so it may have been used for other than locomotive purposes.
I wonder if there are any records in existance in regard to coal (probably lignite) that was shipped from the mine up in Boulder Gorge on the SVRy? Jerry and Taylor visited the site when the river was froze and I guess they found the remains of some sort of tiple to load onto the rr.
