It is always with great interest to see pictures; however, the pictures of the scale build-up on the mud ring of the firebox SCARE THE HELL OUT OF ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is the determined cause of this build up? Is it poor blow down practices, poor wash out practices? Does someone check the water-legs of a boiler with a flashlight during the wash? I have seen bulges caused by similar pockets on other boilers. The potential end results from such a build-up is becoming apart of the space program. What steps are the RGRPC and the C&TS Commission taking to correct these issues? I can guarantee that what I heard from Starefire will only make a small dent in the problem.
