I, too, was in Newfoundland in 1982, riding and photographing the remaining mixed trains on the east end of the island. I've got hundreds of slides hiding in boxes, waiting for the day I have (a lot of) time to scan all of them. Fortunately I still have notes, so a good narrative can be written to accompany them. I'm not sure what I would do with all of the effort that would go into it. There are probably many photographers in the eastern part of Canada who got better photos. And after almost 40 years they are thinning out. Soon there won't be many people who remember the line. Unless you'd made the trip to the last outpost of North American civilization while the railroad was still running, it would be impossible to understand or appreciate how unique it was.
