Spoken Written by a true foamer railfan (persons who, SFAIK, constitute WAY less than five percent of riders on the D&S . . . )

Guilty, yer honor — sort of. Only a second one, though, not a third — a 2012 Ford Escape purchased as "protection" after Ford ruined the model with a new foo-foo body style in 2013.

IMHO, your first sentence (above) is about 90% true. A lot of us "grandpa" types like to take the kids on a "real" train with a "Choo-Choo", but the vast majority of C&TS and D&S riders are there for the scenery. The same is probably true of nearly all tourist railroads that are located in scenic areas that offer something more than just the experience of riding a train on a flat oval like an oversized amusement park ride.
