I have the Sanborn maps for Gainesville, Jefferson, Winder (Jug Tavern), and Monroe. I never realized how "big" Monroe was for RR's. Currently at the end of the line for a short line, Monroe once had three railroads, two turntables and two or three stations!
I also have some evidence that one owner of the SG Gainesville Midland owned some of the feeders of the Gainesville and North Western including the Chestateee RR (SG) and the loggers in Robertstown/Helen (42" gauge). The G&NW had 3-5 miles of dual gauge so the loggers could get to the sawmill (42"/56.5").
