Thanks for all the confirmation that the cars were used to move the scrap rail. My guess is that if we look in Bob Richardson's old "Narrow Gauge News" we will find his reference that these open end gons were next loaded on SG flat at Salida and shipped to Alamosa and put into pipe service on the moment of their arrival. Several trains a day were running out of Alamosa back then with pipe.
