Jerry speaks of Whistles. I remember as a kid (I forget which of our 1960s trips to Colorado), climbing onto the roof of a boxcar sitting on one of the sidings to the north of the Durango station. There were a couple Silverton sections and if I recall correctly, one loco had a chime whistle, and the other just one note. The chime sounded the prettiest, but the single note had the most crisp echo. A kid’s memories anyway.
Cheers,
Ralph
