Martin,
Can't say I ever noticed the red covers post a certain date.
I've been a fan of the West Side and its Shays ever since Rails in the Mother Lode came out in the late 70's, quickly snapped up Mal Ferrell's West Side Narrow Gauge in the Sierras and Mal's follow on, West Side Pictorial after adding Last of the 3Foot Loggers. I've been fortunate to get to see all the extant West Side locos on my last US trip [
ngdiscussion.net] and even rushed to buy a brass #8 in Hon3 back in 1982.
Even after all these years this has been an interesting revelation, a rather obscure fact coming to light. I'm sure glad you have taken the opportunity to share a number of images from your photo collection.
