Hi Chris and Chuck. I know Bill Linley did a book
Trackside in the Maritimes that includes the diesel era, but I don’t know of a comprehensive book including the narrow gauge. Maybe there is one, I’ll ask around. Did Bill perhaps do the
Classic Trains article? And was it mostly diesels, and therefore standard gauge only I presume?
There’s certainly a chapter in Omer Lavallee’s
Narrow Gauge Railways of Canada book, and it includes your shot of the wee English 4-4-0T Bruce, (and thanks for posting it below.) My but wasn’t it ornate, with a polished brass steam dome and the fancy trim on the cab eaves. But not suitable for the bobbing and weaving of an rural island Branchline I gather.....
As to other photos. The shots I posted are just random prints I came across in the Andrew Merrilees Collection. There may have been many others, including equipment shots, but I’m not sure. I’ll post some of the Newfoundland narrow gauge shots I found one day, but there are literally hundreds and hundreds of them - so more on that later.
I met a fellow who I think spoke about the PEI Rly at the Narrow Gauge Convention in Maine a couple years ago. I wasn’t there and don’t remember his name off hand, but I’ll see if I can find it. He seemed to be the fellow who would know the most about PEI, and have the most pictures.
Cheers,
Ralph
