I tried putting together a map overlay using the corners of the township and range grid converted to latitude and longitude. The result to me looks like it needs to be rotated counterclockwise a little bit. Regardless of the slight rotation, it does look like it would have been in the dirt triangle between the water and the bend in the highway. I think that is about where you were estimating.

BTW - the valuation map lists it as Baileys.

I wonder if any of the footings for the wagon bridge to the west at 288700 are still visible.
