Back in the day both Ah Wilderness and Tall Timber were resorts, and it was easy to spend a few days in the Canyon. Ah Wilderness was reasonably priced, Tall Timber less reasonable but a nice splurge. Barbara and I thoroughly enjoyed our four nights as Tall Timber, I spent my days hiking along the right of way and taking pictures, she read and swam in the (ng. flat car sized) pool. The dining room overlooked the tracks and we could watch the last trains sitting at our window table. Didn't get much better than that. Now both places are gone, at least as places open to the general public. Yeah, we could camp, but after a couple backpacking trips in the Sierra, I learned early in our 45 year marriage that she was not into camping.
