I never went into the boneyard, but saw probably a mile long line of
dead steam engines there, from the vestibule of the northbound train from Mexico City to Laredo in 1963.
I have some B&W that need a good source for scanning the small negs. Was sort of a sad sight. We visited Auguascaliente
before that, and that was one of the last shops for SG steam. We got a 2-8-2 that had just been shopped. In the process of rebuild
was 4-8-4 3046, and we were told that was to be the last one rebuilt. Dave Conrad was on that trip, and has a shot of me standing
in front of the engine with my crappy little camera. My brother and I were the youngest people on the trip. Anyway lots of dead engines
around the shop area...again sad to see. But as you know steam continued to around sometime in the late 60's.
