I like Jack's idea of running a couple of the original converted box cars. That's what I rode my first couple of trips on the Cumbres, once in 1973 and again in 1977 when I got out of the Navy. Kinda rough and crude, but you have to admit, not that bad and it got the railroad off and running. Still a good view of the scenery (if you didn't focus on the scratchy plastic windows). For real nostaligia, maybe serve a box lunch of a cold chicken leg and a bag of chips at Osier! OK, maybe a bit much. (My wife tolerates the trip only for the yummy turkey dinner lunch and pumpkin pie).
Are any of those old converted cars left and in rolling stock condition? Just asking out of ignorance as I really don't know if any still around and don't recall seeing them anywhere.
