Passing Perry's Pond
This supposedly being a Sightseeing/Rocky Mountain Exploring adventure, we didn't chase the afternoon Chama - Alamosa turn, but headed off to Durango with Mesa Verde our next goal. After a night in a Durango economy accommodation, on Saturday morning I wandered down to the depot to buy tickets for Sunday's SILVERTON train. Teaching metallurgy lab classes during the spring semester had somewhat restored the desperate financial situation that I encountered during my recent three winter time narrow gauge chases (these stories to be related in a future thread). Anyway there was enough cash for splurging on narrow gauge tickets. At the roundhouse 478 was being readied for Saturday's run to Silverton, including a steam cleaning and some fresh smoke box paint.
