Earl, you pretty much provided a spot on description of the process, it took the better part of three years. CHS/History Colorado realized that the "mulch mobile" (as we fondly call the car) was in need of way more work than they could put into it, so they were willing to pass the car onto the SPRS. Part of the agreement is that if we ever choose to part with the car it will go back to History Colorado. I think it will be a win for all involved, the car will get fixed and we have a neat car in Como. We plan to restore the car as it was with the rail bolted to the side sills and use it as a display flatcar, lettered D&RGW 6302 of course. We are toying with the idea of having the restored car carry of load of stationary boilers (we have two on the roundhouse property) to help illustrate how flatcars were used and the types of loads they would carry. Given the dearth of available actual C&S cars, part of our plan is to use D&RGW or other Colorado narrow gauge cars that we can find to illustrate the types of cars that were used in Como.
