Re: 491 and 482 near Arboles 1958

These guys are a mile or so west of old Arboles. Departing Arboles, crossing the Piedra River, the line swung north into a big sweeping S-curve starting up the 1.42% grade out of the valley. You can see the train behind coming out of the upper portion of the S-curve. The road crossing is the old road down to old Arboles. Both engines are working hard lift all those cars of pipe up the hill.

All this is now under Navajo Reservoir. The new line was built on against the distant hillside. New Arboles would be a few hundred yards up to the hill to the left.
