It is very dusty to work with, labor intensive at over 100 man hours to apply (tapering over steps in the boiler, carving out for rivet heads, and covering with jacket), and God awful expensive (in the low four figures for enough to cover a boiler).
Fiberglass on the other hand, might cost $250 for a boiler's worth, doesn't care about irregular surfaces on the boiler, and with the frame in place, is easy to hold in place until the jacket is on.
We are also using mineral wool inside the cab, where the thickness allowed in less.
