I would recommend Isle au Haut as well if you're feeling adventurous. It's one of the offshore portions of Acadia NP, accessed via the daily mail boat from Stonington (which is a picturesque little town, worth a visit in its own right). It's absolutely gorgeous, and still very lightly visited. You can take the boat out in the morning, hike around for the day, and then return on the evening boat back to Stonington.
The Seal Cove Auto Museum has been mentioned already. Their collection is focused on the pre-1930 period in automobiles and they have several Stanley and White steam cars on display. Also, and of particular interest to railfans, they have a 1912 7-passenger touring car built by Alco (yes, the American Locomotive Co.) at the former Rhode Island Locomotive Works in Providence, RI, an abortive early attempt at diversifying the company's product line.
