Just pointing out that is the site of the original roundhouse, which burned in, I think, 1907. The second roundhouse which is the brick one in most of the photos, was located where the current hardware store is south of the town park. It was torn down in the early 1960s (was still in place in 1961 when it was used for assembly of wagons for the filming of portions of How The West Was Won. It wasn't in the movie, just used for the studio to put wagons together). The new museum location is actually accessible 24/7 for self-guided touring, with signage on all of the cars and other displays. The depot is not currently part of the railroad museum, it is the temporary home of the Ouray County Ranch History Museum until they build their own museum building inside the train loop. They are only open M, W, F, Sat, Sun, I think, and they charge a fee. The railroad museum is free, but donations are encouraged. When the Ranch Museum move into their new building (estimated around 5 years) we will take over the depot. To visit the railroad exhibits, just park in the museum's parking lot and roam the display area. We are currently doing free rides on Motor 1 every Saturday form 9 am - 3 pm, and volunteers are on site for work days on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. If anyone is going to be in the area and really wants a personal tour, that can be arranged by contacting us in advance, see the website.
