Steve,
We have been putting parts back on 483 as we find them. Understand, the originals were mostly taken off and are soldiering on on the other K-36's. The worn out parts they replaced are the ones we are putting back on 483 as we find them.
Incidentally, the pilot, which got rehabilitated and mounted last year, had been sitting as a garden ornament opposite the depot. It is clearly a K-36 pilot, but we weren't sure if it actually came off of 483. It's noteworthy features are that it has plates welded on the front (like a few other K-36's) and that it has been run into something pretty hard. Looking back at photographs from the D&RGW days, 483's pilot did not have the plates. However, recent posts on this forum include pictures of 483 taken as a C&TS locomotive in the mid-70's, and those pictures show plates on her pilot (but not the damage). So, we may actually have returned 483's pilot back to her.
