The section foreman was my dad who was staying at Sublette.
Most of the railroad mail, company mail, was forwarded from location to location in "thousand miler" envelopes. Generally then handled on passenger trains.
During this time period that service was not available from Pueblo west to Alamosa and points beyond.
As a result most of the company mail was forwarded by USPS.
My dad had some type of railroad correspondence that probably needed to go to Denver, I'm guessing time roll.
He had an envelope addressed and stamped to go via US Mail and asked the helper engineer to drop it off at Antonito. Most likely it was given to the agent who then put it in the mail.
