Well my dad shot regular service stuff out of Cheyenne and Laramie in 1954. This was the same trip he made his first visit to the Narrow Gauge D&RGW. My first taste of UP steam was a ride behind 8444 Memorial Day weekend 1968. The trip started in Denver, but I think Mom met us in Cheyenne(on the return trip, which is where 8444 stopped also). My brother and I nosed around the roundhouse and yard. There were several steamers still residing on the property, including 5011, 833, 838, 3985, 4023, and a couple of others I think. 4023 is in Omaha Now. Perhaps 4004 was in the string as well, or one of the other Big Boys. Right after this 8444 trip (we were doing 90 mph on the way back to Cheyenne), we headed to Durango for 3 days of D&RGW freights on June 3-5. It was a good trip!!!
