Located between Santa Fe and Espanola, Otowi was the spot where the Chili Line crossed the Rio Grande for the last time (or first time if you were starting from Santa Fe!).
A late Chili Line era photo of Otowi from Doorman's book. Note the boxcar depot, road bridge and railroad bridge.
Otowi on March 14, 2019. The new road and bridge (New Mexico 502, on its way to Los Alamos) has altered the scene quite a bit. The car pulled to the side of the road is roughly in the spot once occupied by the boxcar depot. The original road bridge and remains of the railroad bridge are hidden from view behind the new road bridge.
The old road bridge and remains of the railroad bridge as seen from the new road bridge. In the recent past, this area was accessible, even had a parking area and trails. Access today is limited to the highway right of way.
