I had asked this before, but here is a good place to ask again. It is still not clear to me how DRGW decided when to ship by rail and when to use the motor service. That is, what stopped them from unilaterally halting all trains and moving all by road?
Olaf's latest post is my point. There is nothing on this train that could not have gone by truck. There was a gradual tapering of mode share from rail to road over the 1963-1968 years. Why was it not just immediate and complete on one date?
