206 was run by Billy Edwards, who was a locally popular guy. He got killed in a bad wreck over near Carracas in 1917. He was running #224 that day. He was the lead engine of an eastbound doubleheader that hit a couple of cows at a pretty good clip. Edwards engine derailed, turned over on its left side then got shoved off the left side of the track by the trailing engine and train. By time they got stopped, the 208, the second engine, was facing back toward the west. Edwards was killed when the tender of his engine rolled over the top of him.
When one comes into Chama from the north, the first house one sees on the right is a nice old Victorian. That is the "Edwards House". Nice looking place. It was built by a guy named Thatcher, a former carman for the D&RG. He built several houses in Chama, including the house I owned at the NW corner of 3rd and Pine. All his houses shared much of the same architectural features.
