Here is another photo of #18 with the plow. This is when the #18 lead the last narrow-gauge train from Mina on February 16, 1938 The #18 had just returned from its last shopping at Sparks. When sent to the division shops in January it was wearing the plow.
The week prior to this last train there had been a snow storm and the railroad sent out two locomotives with the flanger to clear the line for the then weekly train over the pass.
The latest (just received) issue of the
Journal of the Southern Pacific Narrow Gauge Historical Society has a four-page story about the narrow gauge leaving Mina.
