Yes but basically steam in any sort of regularity in quantity ended in 1976 I believe....probably Rheine to Emden, or trip workings in the industrial Ruhr, all electrified territory. We visited Germany and Spain in 1972, and got some East German cross border steam at Bebra West Germany. In 1974 we visited W. Germany, Austria, Yugoslavia, Italy, and a failed attempt at Czechoslavakia. We did get a couple of Czech 4-8-2's that crossed into Summerau, Austria. Have a shot of the cab of a Czech 4-8-2 with the police guard that was there to prevent the defection by the steam crew!!! Made a trip in March 1975 for Germany and a little Italy. My next trip was 1977 to South Africa. Did another in 1984. All were regular service steam, not the photo op specials! Will post a German Pacific in a new thread, as I found one I saved small enough to post here.
