Mike: The fog really did set the mood in many of these frames, in a few cases even simulating the steam heat that was once so popular with passenger cars. Last December it snowed the three days I was there, this was a welcomed change.
Lee: On the current Great Lakes Central trackage that #1225 operates on there is not any street running; for the most part it runs northwest out of Owosso across corn fields – intersecting country dirt roads at 45 degree angles. The town of Ashley, which serves at the North Pole, is about as close as street running gets, as seen in photo #24. But I agree, to recreate that scene from the movie/book with the real Polar Express locomotive would be magical!
