I finally had a chance to sit back and enjoy this video on dark and snowy night here in New England. Great stuff, Craig!

I've only been to The Loop twice, but I've really enjoyed myself both times. The ride is definitely exciting and unique. These engines really work their hearts out on the grades and it's one of the few steam operations where I can enjoy being right behind the locomotive without fear of getting cinders in my contacts!

I have to agree it is a difficult railroad to photograph and I really wish I could have done that one-day trip last fall. A charter is definitely the way to see the place. You spoke of hiking the line.....did you need to get special permission from someone to do that? I have hiked into a few spots, but have never hiked the line. It just looks as if there are some places where you don't want to be when there's a train coming. Any suggestions for good spots?

My best shot ever was near the top, not far from Silver Plume. It's a back-lit shot of the 111 on an early October morning with both snow and fall foliage in the frame. It's actually become of the favorites of my entire collection.
