Thirty or so years ago I was attending some meetings of the Society of California Archivists. This was in the era of the Compact computer that was the size of a portable sewing machine was a portable computer!

The archivists were comfortable with dealing with paper. But, they had a concern about the electronic medium -- the data might (or might not) survive, but they felt certain that the programs would change and the files would be unreadable.
