Bob's video is gonna cost me a plane ticket to Durango this winter. My initial reaction to the 18 going to Durango was ho hum, great engine wrong scenery. I chased SP 9 when it made the last steam trip on the SP ng. and the Animas Valley just does not look anything like the Owens River Valley.
And I "chased" the 18 as it chugged back and forth at Laws surrounded by the icons of the SP ng. saved by the museum like the turntable, water and oil tanks. Durango is just too....well....DRGW.
Then I watched Bob's video of the 18 moving along at speed. With a respectable train. Who cares about the scenery, so what if the water tank is different, and the cars not lettered SP. The engine just looks and sounds great doing what it was built to do, actually working hard.
Gotta see it in person. Thanks again Bob.
