The base of the hill is just east of the Yard Limit Sign, which is just east of MP 343. With no way of actually measuring the grade, my guess was always around 3%. From the highway crossing out to the bottom of this short hill, the grade is pretty flat, which allows you to build up your fire and get ready for when the engineer rips the throttle wide open and literally all hell breaks loose in the firebox.
