Winter trains and memories

I dunno. When I was dating my wife, who was attending Ft Lewis at the time, on her very first train ride[1] (she was 18 going on 19) in Jan. 1983[2] we had lotsa snow.
Agree that the winter ride is a whole 'nother animal than the summertime one and not to missed though.

ps My best train ride ever was on the RGZ from Grand Jct to Denver in early May of 1981. Snow storm from a dome car, just wow.

[1] her 2nd was a moonlight ride on D&S that February but the windows were all fogged up and we couldn't see a bloody thing. Her third was the last RGZ from Grand Jct to Glenwood Springs. 4th was D&S on our honeymoon the next summer. After that, thousands of miles of Amtrak over the next 16 years...

[2] We were in the parlor car. After he brought our first round of drinks (yes, under CO law at the time and for the next couple of years I was contributing to the delinquency of a minor - even after we got married that summer!) he asked if we were newlyweds. We said no, just newly engaged and he grinned. When we got back to Durango, that 1st round of drinks was the only one on our tab! And yes, I asked her to marry me after one bus ride from Salida to Denver and a couple of days in Durango 2 weeks later. Never have regretted it, even though the marriage only lasted 16 years.
