Thanks for the kind words. There are few on this list who have some kind of heart burn about the D&S and always have something negative to comment. I do not understand that, if you are a Denver and Rio Grande Western narrow gauge fan you should be glad that both parts of it survive and do well. I was at the first C&TS run in 71 and have promoted it whenever I can. I am sure that John Bush and Tim Tennant would testify to that. But I have also promoted the D&S, I live next to it, have many friends on the railroad and have been given access to document the D&S activities. It just irks me that seemingly every time I post something on the D&S, there come the negative comments (usually from the same guys). But I guess that is the nature of our world now.
Have heard comments like: K-36s and K-37s never ran on the Silverton. It might interest everyone to know that the D&RGW was giving serious consideration to running 36s and 37s on the branch in 1963 and 64. I have D&RGW drawing showing how they considered rebuilding the "high bridge" south of Tacoma by planning a second hand Pratt Truss bridge on top of the existing bridge. The D&RGW built a new bridge at MP 489.9 bypassing the old bridge. The new bridge was constructed to handle the K-36s and K-37s.
Bridge 489.9.
Shot these about 6 pm tonight.
