I knew a guy who'd have his own photo line of cameras, would stake out spots on NS steam runbys that could have contained a dozen people. He'd bring as many as 20 cameras of various types (even had a 1930s speed graphic, the only time I ever saw one being used like that). They guy was a world-class jerk about it, too. he'd elbow paying passengers out of the way, thinking he got there first so that gave him the right over the paying riders.
At one 611 trip, the train got out of the area really fast, and he wasn't ready. He grabbed two tripods, pushed everyone else out of the way as he made a run for it, leaving almost ten various other cameras on tripods. I guess as several local folks were breaking down their stuff, he'd lost track of the number of cameras he'd actually brought.
Nobody told him he was forgetting some stuff. I heard he only realized it at the next spot, went back, and nothing was there waiting for him (of course everyone was gone long before then). Nobody I know who heard the story had any sympathy (and some of them were there and just laughed as he drove off).

30 years old in 'Nam? Were you a war correspondent? If so, civilian or military?
