Rode the train Wednesday (10/10) and it was the most fantastic ride up the hill to Cumbres I've ever experienced! It was snowing heavily, the ground and trees were full of snow and it was snowing all the way up. It was a winter fairyland. To look ahead at the double headed locomotives as they went around the curves, working so hard to get us there thru the storm was the most beautiful sight I've ever seen. Besides the black and white there would be an occasional short glow of the firebox when the fireman opened it. I wish I had words to really describe it but I will keep a picture in my head forever. The downside of the ride was that it was cancelled at Osier and we had to return to Chama instead of going all the way to Antonito. This was due to closing of La Manga pass so the buses were either seriously delayed or cancelled altogether. I have been riding the CATS for 46 years now and this was one of the very best ever. Even shortening the ride took nothing away from it.
