Over the last 10 days, track was laid from Location 1 through (and past) Location 9.
This puts tracklaying on the Mountain Extension ahead of schedule, as it was initially planned to stop short of Location 9. However, it was later deemed preferable to repair the major washout at Location 9 during the 2018 construction season, while vehicular access could be gained from the south.
The remaining work schedule (SUBJECT TO CHANGE and corrections) is:
During 2019:
- Clear remaining trees from Location 9 through 13.
- Ballast/line/tamp/dress track from Location 1 through Location 9.
- Finish repairing washouts at Locations 10, 11, 12. (Vehicular access provided from the North, via Trout Brook Bridge.)
- Repair a major ditch at Location 12.
- Complete any necessary ditching between Location 9 and 13.
- Lay track from Location 9 over the bridge, as far north as resources will allow.
During 2020:
- Ballast/line/tamp/dress track from Location 9 to then current end of track.
- Perform any necessary/remaining prep work around locations 14-17.
- Lay any remaining track.
- Construct passing siding & turntable near Location 16/17.
- Construct station near Location 16/17
During 2021:
- Ballast/line/tamp/dress any remaining track, siding, etc.
- Finish any work on station, turntable, etc.
- Begin public service. (Until then, public trains will continue to terminate at Top of the Mountain.
