Thanks for the comments Ned. The lathe is an old Southbend 9" that I inherited from my Grandfather who kept his tools in excellent condition. He was a tool and die maker who I could have learned a lot from but passed before I was old enough to really get started in these types of projects. The mill is an Enco mill/drill that is probably from the 90s that I picked up at a work auction. I'd like to purchase a proper knee mill someday but I am learning to work within the limitations of this machine. Addition of a DRO has really helped with all of the arc cutting and keeping track of hole spacing. For this project I had to pick up a good quality propane torch and learn how to silver solder.
