Rich, the posters are correct. The key is the fact that there are not two locomotives on the same SPAN at the same time. D&RGW usually had 5-6 cars at least when they ran mid-train helpers. We did a photo freight with a mid-train helper in 1993. In an upcoming video I have a train departing Chama with a mid-train helper cut in. The norm was a rear helper by the caboose, so the mid-train with the engines split is more of a novelty. Cool video......I miss the sound though on these drone shots!
